This is hot stuff.. Divers come to Palm Beach from all over the world, for this...The Inshore Ledge is where, and what, most diveboats will assume divers will want to see first.

It is a dramatic structure, with so much life cascading off the ledge face it is actually difficult to know where to concentrate your attention.

The Inshore Ledge is a place where schools of fish are concentrated, where you can swim yourself right into a cloud so dense you may lose sight of other divers in your group. Marine Life targets this ledge…. fish are drawn to large structure, and this structure has been calling out to them for a millennia. As you go through this article, if this zone appears to be one of the zones you are going to want to dive, the real question for you will become: "how do I want to dive this"… will you want to stick your head into every coral cave, looking for morays, Peterson Shrimp, or Blennies.... Or, will you be after some-

thing much more elusive and harder to spot. Will you want to cover 20 feet of ledge in 10 minutes? OR, will you want to see as much of the big stuff as you can, as quickly as you can. Will you be swimming at a fairly fast cruising pace on this mission to search out and discover, covering a mile in 20 minutes, aided by the drift current helping you in your quest, like a big escalator. You actually "need" to think about which of these two extremes you are closer to, so that we can find a group that enjoys the same pace and "sight seeing behavior" that you enjoy.

Divers get dropped virtually right on top of the inshore ledge. They will be moved along the reef by the current, allowing an effortless tour if this is their pleasure. When they see something that they want to take a close and stationary look at, the diver just gets lower to the bottom, where the escalator virtually stops for them, and the group they are with will be wanting to see this attraction as well.
