Shrimp are very pretty because each has its own little design, and they all have their own very important little cleaning job. Without them, marine biologists have found fish populations get sick with parasites and soon move on or die off. Healthy reefs l ike our Boynton Beach system have lots of shrimp/cleaner stations. This banded coral shrimp stays in one spot waving her antennae to attract fish in need of having their external and mouth parasites removed. She sports special equipment for this in that she can actually cut parasites out with her pincers. This shrimp is pregnant (see the blue eggs beneath her).

The squat anemone shrimp has a symbiotic relationship with the anemone it lives within. The spotted cleaner shrimp lives in various anemonies and cleans fish as well as eats scraps from the anemone.
