IDC - (Instructor Development Course)

Course Highlights: Dive USA's 8 day IDC program offers the aspiring professional instructor a staff of educators unsurpassed in the industry. Because we consider ourselves educators you will learn more than just how to pass an exam, you'll learn about the "why" of various diving skills and PADI standards for teaching.

The 8 day program will develop your understanding of teaching methodology, whether it be academic knowledge, pool skill development, or ocean open water dives. You will then practice these methods by teaching academic, pool, and open water components of the PADI Open Water Course to your fellow classmates.

A typical day can be long but our staff works hard at making it fun too. The day will include class lectures, pool sessions, and later, ocean dives. One of the unique aspects of the Dive USA course is that all students can start their course at home. Home Study materials and Dive USA internet class capabilities can substantially shorten your day because all the major components of the IDC can be studied prior to arrival at Dive USA. This will substantially cut down on your nightly "homework".

At the end of the eight days, you will be eligible to attend a PADI Headquarters-sponsored Instructor Exam (IE), for which you will pay a separate fee directly to PADI. The IE is two days long, set on week-ends and timed by Dive USA to coincide directly after completion of the IDC. Once through with the IE, students may continue with Dive USA's PRO I, MSDT and Pro II sequence starting at noon the following Monday.

Prerequisites: To apply for the IDC you must hold at least a PADI Divemaster or Assistant Instructor rating (Instructors from other agencies qualify for the similar IOC-contact us by email for information). No other certifications qualify. In addition, you must show documentation of being certified for one full year with a total of 60 dives. In order to attend the PADI IE (Instructor Exam), the candidate must show proof of 100 logged dives. The Dive USA IDC, PRO I, MSDT and PRO II course programs' dives may be used as credit toward meeting the 100 dive prerequisite for the Instructor Exam (IE). If you have any questions concerning your qualifications, please contact the school for an individual assessment of your training and experience.
