SDT (Master Scuba Diver Trainer)

Course Highlights:

One of the first questions many employers may ask an instructor is: "What specialties can you teach?" The PADI IDC process does not train you sufficiently to qualify you to teach specialties. Both AI's (Assistant Instructors) and OWSI's (Open Water Scuba Instructors) qualify to attend this course (AI for audit until IE is passed). The MSDT is a 4 day course scheduled immediately after the Pro I which lays the groundwork for a new instructor to teach specialty courses (following the MSDT is the more advanced Pro II course).

5 Specialty Instructor ratings are earned which will provide the instructor with most of the prerequisites to later apply to PADI Headquarters for the MSDT rating. The 5 specialties, chosen due to their popularity with students, are Deep, Night, Wreck, UW Naturalist, and UW Navigation. Because students will be taught course-specific logistic and skills from our Course Directors and staff, the normally required 25 certifications requirement is waived before teaching of the specialties is allowed.
Course Topics:
  • Logistical Considerations for each specialty
  • Line reel technique
  • Advanced Underwater communications
  • Advanced buoyancy and propulsion techniques
  • Course specific theory
  • Teaching assignments
Prerequisites:
  • A PADI Instructor (or AI may audit prior to IE completion)
