The Boynton reef system has an offshore facing side we call the fingers. The back side of the reef crown where they begin is around 60 feet deep, and elongated projections, much like fingers, extend out and down to the sand and max depth of 90 feet.
The sides of these fingers have their own ledge overhangs, and many of the larger fi sh, even including jewfish, can be found here.
Advanced divers and spearfisherman typically start their dives on the fingers, and upon coming near the end of their no-stop time, they head up and over the reef crown, swimming across at a depth of around 40 feet, offgassing their way over to the inshore facing ledge.
