Diving Accident Management Specialist (DAMS)

Course Highlights: Picking up where traditional rescue diver courses leave off, this intensive five-day program is designed to give you the in-depth knowledge and skills to properly handle wide range of diving medical emergencies. The theory component of the course will explore advanced topics in diving and aquatic physiology. But the emphasis of the program is on the practical skills needed to manage the scene of an accident. The course includes three open water sessions where you will learn how to put into practice the information and guidelines addressed in the classroom. This course is an excellent choice for those who will be supervising divers in remote locations where modern emergency medical assistance isn't immediately available.

  • Medical aspects of pulmonary over inflation, decompression sickness and inert gas toxicity

  • Hypothermia
  • Near-drowning
  • Interfacing with the EMS
  • The evaluation and use of oxygen delivery systems and related equipment
  • Conducting neurological exams
  • Patient evacuation procedures
  • Advanced in-water rescue procedures
  • Patient triage

Prerequisite: Certification as a rescue diver from any diver training agency.
