Creatures of the Ledge

Lobster are typical creatures of the ledge and crevice system here.

...And the shy but highly predatory life of the Octopus...
This is a File Clam, which you could identify by looking it up in the "REEF CREATURE Identification Book" by Paul Humann ( a book you should probably own).

...The creatures we find in the ledge systems of South Florida are worth slowing down to take a close look at. (Identifying them may become a little harder...)

Below is a creature we could not find in any books so far, and this can sometimes be exciting from the perspective of discovering something no one has identified before (although frequently it means you need to keep looking in other books ;)
NEXT MONTH WE WILL HAVE A NEW ISSUE ADDED, MAIN FEATURES TO BE :
  • Technical Diving's Greatest Wreck Dives. These wrecks are in DEEP water off of Pompano Beach, Florida (mostly images captured from video frames on the wrecks in the 280 foot deep range, but several extrememly cool 35mm photos on the shallower 175 foot deep sites). This section will have spectacular mpeg videos "YOU MUST DOWN LOAD!!!". If you don't have an mpeg viewer, we will have a section explaining how to download and install free mpeg viewing software. Most mpeg videos will be about a 10 to 15 minute download, and worth every second.
  • Look for our feature on technical Cave diving, with an editorial written by George Irvine, one of the founding members of WKPP, the world's most elite cave diving group. Also look for a spectacular mpeg video of their dive into Wakulla--farther into the Florida Aquifer system than ANY divers have ever gone before.
  • Look for our section on recreational dives in the Pompano Beach area..
  • And finally, next month's issue will have a beach access dive planner and snorkelling (freediving) feature.
