Sand Dwellers

As you closely inspect the sandy regions between the fingers of reef, you will sometimes find creatures which range between camouflaged and vibrantly colored---like this Flying Ganard.
The Flying Ganard is close to a perfect blend with their background, while they lie in the sand with fins tucked in. When they open their pectoral fins and glide along the bottom like a sail plane, their appearance is quite striking.
Another sand dweller with a unique look is the Guitar fish. In the Shark family (Skates and Rays), they are an unobtrusive presence, and depend on their camouflage to prevent their detection by Hammerhead Sharks or other large predators.
The ability of creatures like the guitar fish to blend into different surroundings and bottom structure is quite remarkable. But if most of us were only 2-3 feet long, and had 12 foot sharks out looking to eat us, we would probably blend in to the bottom pretty well too!
