I stood right up and let them know that we would find Roger sound asleep, clean him for 50 minutes, then he would swim back into his ledge after we finished and go back to sleep. I knew turtles could hold their breath for many hours, just from the encounters we would have in an afternoon on a single reef. We'd see the turtles if they surfaced, so we got a better feel for how long they usually stayed under. Today we know a turtle can stay under for as long as three days if they need to."
