There are many exciting environments macro photographers can get involved with during their course work. Here at the surface in blue Gulfstream water, few people ever think about sargassum. Within these floating weedbeds are many species of creatures and fish.
Tiny sea turtle hatchlings like this are just one of many interesting sargassum inhabitants. After their mad dash from the nest to shore, the babies that make it this far will generally have been swimming non-stop for their first 36 hours of life. They will float with the sargassum as a "safe haven", for at least the next year.
Many creatures have evolved to look much like the 'weeds" they live in. This happens on the bottom as well as in the sargassum. This may look like a weed...
But if you look very closely you can see the eye of a 3 inch long striated frogfish (look for the the eye in the upper left third of photo)...
The frogfish even goes so far as to have a lure that he "fishes" with.
